WARNING

BEFORE SERVICING OR WORKING ON ANY COMPRESSED AIR SYSTEM COMPONENTS, USE THE MANUFACTURE’S MANDATORY SAFETY SHUT DOWN PROCEDURE FOR ALL COMPONENTS.

THIS INCLUDES DISCONNECTING ELECTRICAL POWER AND USING REQUIRED SAFETY LOCKOUT TAGS.

AIR PRESSURE IN SYSTEM MUST BE BLED DOWN TO ZERO-ALWAYS USE THE PRESSURE GAGE TO VERIFY.

SAFETY GLASSES MUST BE WORN.

A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN MUST DO ALL ELECTRICAL WORK, AND ALL STATE AND LOCAL CODES MUST BE FOLLOWED.

TEFLON PIPE SEALANT SHOULD BE USED ON ALL PIPE FITTINGS.

1. Drain all water from the receiver tank by opening the manual drain at bottom of tank. Leave this valve open until all air pressure in tank is bled down to zero. IMPORTANT: In older systems that may not have been drained daily as required, there could be debris clogging the manual drain, verify that there is no pressure in system before any further work is done.

MOUNTING THE STRAINER ASSEMBLY: Install the street elbow in the bottom of the tank, connect the long nipple and the strainer ball valve assembly as shown in fig #1. The ball valve will allow for manual draining and periodic cleaning of the internal screen in the strainer.

MOUNTING THE DRAIN VALVE: Install a ¾ npt close nipple into outlet of tank, next install a ¾ union tee. On the branch side of the tee install the drain valve as shown in fig # 2. Last install the 90-degree push in fitting on the side of the drain valve and connect the ¼” black nylon tube to the strainer. A ball valve and a regulator should be installed down stream of the tee, before connecting to air system piping. (hint for best results use a metal hose before connecting to hard piping of distribution system to prevent leaks due to compressor vibration)

Plug in the drain to 115 volt grounded outlet, set timer on valve for drain interval (average setting 5-minute cycle). The drain valve will only work when there is pressure in receiver tank. A bucket may be placed under the drain to catch the water or a drain tube can be installed in the 1/8” npt port on the bottom of the drain. Use 3/8” tubing to run to a drain. (Check ordinances in your area about proper disposal of compressor condensate).

ASTROCOOLER INSTALLATION: Disassemble the discharge tubing or piping that runs from the head of the compressor to the tank inlet check valve. See fig #5 (penetrating oil may be needed to help loosen old fittings). Next if the inlet check valve does not have ¾ npt female threads, the new check valve in the kit must be installed. IMPORTANT: note the orientation of the fitting on the side of the check valve so when the new one is installed the fitting can be replaced and reconnected. See fig # 4.

Install the ¾” union for the metal flex hose onto the compressor discharge. ( ¾” pipe fittings may be needed in this area to help in installation). See fig #5. Connect the ½ npt end of the metal hose to the top port on the ASTROCOOLER. Use the metal hose to help determine the location for mounting the ASTROCOOLER. See fig # 6. For best results the cooler should be mounted as far away from the pump as the hose will allow and the bottom outlet of the ASTROCOOLER MUST be above the tank inlet check valve. This will allow for the water as it condenses in the cooler to run down into the tank. Use the brackets as a template mark and drill mounting holes and use appropriate hardware for mounting on wall.

Install the ¾” npt barbed fitting into the tank inlet check valve (¾” pipefittings may be needed in this area to help in installation) and the ½” npt barbed fitting into the outlet at the bottom of the cooler. Use the gray jiffy hose and connect from the bottom of the cooler to the tank inlet check valve. Slide hose over barbed fittings and secure with two hose clamps on each end. See fig #7

Plug ASTROCOOLER into 115 volt grounded outlet and turn on the switch. For best results leave the cooler fan run. This will allow for optimal cooling when the compressor is between cycles. The motor has very little draw and is designed for 30,000-hrs life.
